Der US R&B Sänger Ne-Yo der mit richtigem Namen Shaffer Chimere Smith hießt, hier mit seiner zweiten Single “Miss Independent” aus dem Album “Year of the Gentleman”. Der Song benutzt weite Teile des Stückes “Forget About Me” von Little Bit auch bekannt als Lil’ Bit.

“Miss Independent” is a song by American pop/R&B singer Ne-Yo. It is the second single from his album Year of the Gentleman and was produced by Stargate. It samples from the song “Forget About Me” by Little Bit (aka Lil’ Bit). The song was written by Ne-Yo and co-written by Stargate. It was released as a music download on August 26, 2008 and physical release in September 2008.

Ne-Yo shot the video for “Miss Independent” with director Chris Robinson on Monday, August 11, 2008 in Santa Monica, California. It featured cameos from Keri Hilson, Gabrielle Union, Lauren London and Trey Songz.

Chart performance

“Miss Independent” debuted at #98 on the Billboard Hot 100. The next week it made a big jump to #32. The following week it climbed to #27. It hit the top ten in its eighth week, climbing to #8, and giving Ne-Yo his second consecutive top ten hit from the album. It has since climbed a spot to #7 on the Hot 100. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the song has been much more successful than the first single from the album, “Closer”, reaching #1, giving Ne-Yo his first chart topper.

On August 31, 2008, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at #39 on downloads alone and peaked at #6. The Australian Aria Singles Chart, saw Miss independent debut at number 56 on August 9, 2008 -- September 9, 2008.
